How to sell your jewellery for cash.

The old ways lead to stress and confusion: visit a jeweller or pawn shop, work with an auction house, or list it yourself for private sale. The best way to avoid uncertainty is to sell online with a buyer that offers ease and transparency.

Unlocket is for those who'd rather start from home and keep things simple.

Avoid the shop counter and the pressure of haggling. Send us a few photos for an initial valuation in 60 seconds, based on live metal prices. Once you understand what your jewellery could be worth, you decide if now is the right time to sell.

The precious metals and gemstones we buy.

It's pretty straightforward: we'll buy any jewellery made from gold, silver or platinum.

Choosing the metal of a piece in the Unlocket app, with a gold ring on the table

Gold, any carat and colour

You can sell us your gold jewellery for cash no matter the purity or colour, from 9ct, 14ct and 18ct through to 22ct and 24ct gold. That means white, red, and yellow gold are welcome too.

Silver and platinum

We value silver jewellery and platinum jewellery much the same way: we look at what the piece is made from, its weight, and the current metal price. We consider all the factors that could impact its value, like the brand, hallmarks, and craftsmanship.

Diamonds and gemstones

If you want to sell your jewellery set with diamonds and other gemstones, we're still interested. Since your stones need a closer look than a photograph can provide, though, we need to assess them in person to give you an accurate valuation.

Don't worry if you're far from being a gem expert and can't decode tiny hallmarks. Take a few clear photos, and we'll go from there.

The types of jewellery we buy.

Vintage, branded, or broken. Gold, silver, platinum, or inlaid with stones. Age, condition, colour and carat don't have to be perfect. You might be surprised what we'll pay good money for.

  • Rings

Holding on to an old gold ring, inherited signet ring, or engagement ring from another life? Sell any ring, including pieces set with diamonds and other gemstones.

  • Necklaces, chains and pendants

The chunkiest 9ct yellow gold chain or the most delicate silver necklace; if it's been sitting unworn, why not find out what it's worth?

  • Bracelets and earrings

A complete pair is great, but even if you've just found one lonely earring at the bottom of your jewellery box, send it our way.

  • Branded, vintage and antique jewellery

Some pieces are worth more than their metal alone, so design and condition matter when we assess branded, vintage, or antique jewellery.

  • Broken, old and unwanted jewellery

Snapped chain? Bent ring? Broken clasp? Damage doesn't mean your jewellery becomes worthless. You can still unlock the value of the precious metals and stones.

  • Mixed-metal and stone-set jewellery

Sometimes gold's mixed with platinum and silver's set with diamonds. You can still sell mixed-metal jewellery, with gemstones assessed in person.

From evaluation to the best price.

How much can you make selling jewellery? To give you the best price, we need to see what you've got. Here's how we work it out.

You can keep guessing how much you can sell your jewellery for, or spend just 60 seconds getting a quote.

  1. Start with a 60-second valuation

Upload a few photos and tell us what you know about your jewellery. We'll give you an initial valuation in under a minute, so you have a price to think about before you send us anything.

  2. Send it in for a proper look

Does the price sound about right? Send your jewellery to us for a full assessment. Once it arrives, we check the metal, purity and weight, look at the condition, and assess any gemstones. Postage is insured both ways, so it's covered on its way back if you decide to keep it.

  3. We use today's metal prices

Because gold, silver and platinum prices move with the market, we use current metal prices when we value your jewellery. We look at everything that could affect the price. Don't worry, a branded ring or diamond necklace doesn't automatically get treated like scrap metal.

  4. Get our best price

Once we've seen your jewellery, we can give you our best price. If you're happy, sell. If the price isn't right for you right now, we return it.

Is now a good time to sell jewellery?

Yes. Thanks to a recent surge in precious metal prices, now is a good time to sell jewellery.

Metal prices change. If you own or want to sell gold, silver, or platinum jewellery, its underlying metal value can fluctuate along with the market.

In the past few years, precious metal prices have gone up sharply. While the market still has ups and downs, there's a good chance your old jewellery's gold or silver is worth much more now than when you first bought it.

The graph below shows precious-metal prices over time to give you some context for today's price.

Remember, though, no chart can tell you if it's the right time to sell for you. If you've inherited a piece you'll never wear, have an old ring from another life, or would simply rather put the money towards something you actually want, now might be the time.

Used, broken or unwanted? We'll take it.

Where you see only a snapped chain or a ring that no longer suits your aesthetic, we see value. There may still be good money in your second-hand, broken or unwanted jewellery for the gold, silver, platinum or stones it contains. You don't even need to fix it or clean it up first.

Even for those pieces you've mentally filed under "scrap", send them as they are, and we'll assess what's actually there. You may be surprised what they're worth.

Why Unlocket is the best place to sell jewellery online

The best place to sell jewellery shouldn't expect you to be a jewellery expert to get a fair price.

Walking into a random shop wondering if you're about to say yes to the wrong number? No thanks. Decoding hallmarks and keeping one eye on the gold price? That should be our job.

Unlocket does the complicated bit. You show us what you've got, we work out what we're prepared to pay, and you decide if that price works for you.

And if you do sell? That's when an old piece can become something really meaningful. Jewellery you haven't worn in years could fund a weekend away, go towards something you've been saving for, or put money in your pocket for whatever matters more right now.

No bluffing. No pressure. No awkward haggling. No need to pretend you know more about jewellery than you do.

The old way to sell jewellery
  • You sell blind.

High-street buyers know the live metal price; you don't. Offers can run 10–40% of true value, working never shown.

  • The fees are foggy.

Deductions for “testing”, “handling” or “admin” mean the quote is rarely the number you actually get.

  • It travels at your risk.

Posted and prayed for, or handed across a stranger's counter with a paper ticket as your only proof.

  • You wait, or take store credit.

Cheques, IOUs, or credit you can only spend where you sold. Never cash in your account.

The Unlocket way to sell jewellery
  • You see the full value first.

Metal, weight and live market price. Every figure on screen before you decide anything.

  • One fee. 20%. Keep 80%.

Roughly double what a pawnbroker pays, with the maths shown so you know exactly how we got there.

  • Insured and tracked, door to door.

Prepaid, fully insured postage both ways. Change your mind and it comes home free.

  • Cash in your bank within 14 days.

A real bank transfer, the moment you approve the final figure. No store credit, no cheques.

The value was always yours. Selling it should be honest too.
